Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located and what are your hours?
We are located in the Gravois Bluffs Plaza. Just south of Gravois/ Hwy 30 on the west side of Hwy. 141. We are across the parking lot from Lowe’s next to Sherwin Williams. Our hours are Mon-Fri 9 AM-6 PM and Sat 10 AM-4 PM.
How much will it cost to get my sewing machine or vacuum cleaner repaired?
It is hard to say without seeing it first. Even though you may be able to tell us what the symptoms are, it is hard to tell if parts will be required or if it is just an adjustment that needs to be made. We give free estimates when you bring your product into the store.
How long will it take to get my vacuum or sewing machine fixed?
That depends on a number of factors. Most of the time a week or less if we don’t have to order parts. If we have to order parts it could take up to two weeks. We stock a lot of parts, but we can’t stock every part for every vacuum or sewing machine. The time of the year makes a difference. For sewing machines, the summer months are the slowest and it might take only a day or two. In the fall, after school starts, people tend to do more sewing so it can get really busy. For vacuums, we are busiest around the holidays. Everybody is trying to get ready for the holidays. Nobody wants their mother in law to see their dirty floors. We always try to get your repair done as quickly as possible and still do quality work. Our service techs always put quality over quantity.
Is it worth repairing my sewing machine or vacuum or should I just buy a new one?
Most sewing machines and vacuums are worth repairing if they don’t have serious problems. It is always best to bring it in and get a professional opinion. For example, I have seen people throw away perfectly good vacuums that a $3.00 belt could have solved their problem. You should also take into consideration that many older vacuums or sewing machines are of better quality than their counterparts today. It’s not that you can’t buy a good quality product today; it’s just that you can’t buy it for the same amount of money it will cost you to fix the old one in many cases.
Do you have the parts I need for my sewing machine or vacuum cleaner?
We stock a lot of high mortality parts for both. However, we cannot stock every part for every make and model. If you call us with your make and model number we will be glad to look it up and see if we have it in stock. If we don’t have it in stock we can most likely order it for you. If we order a part for you, there are no additional handling or shipping charges for parts picked up here at the store. We can also ship parts to you and that would incur a shipping charge.
Do you have the bags, belts or filters for my vacuum?
We stock bags, belts, and filters for most makes and models of vacuum cleaners. If we don’t have it in stock we can order it for you.
How often should I change the belt or filter on my vacuum?

Belts: Vacuum belts should be changed about every three or four months. Most are made of rubber and will stretch out from the heat and friction of being used. When they become stretched the brush roller slows down and that will have an effect on cleaning ability. A vacuum can lose up to 50% of its cleaning efficiency after four months of use, depending on how often and how much area you are vacuuming. Commercial vacuums, that are used every day, should have their belt changed more often. Belts are an inexpensive way to ensure that your vacuum is working properly.

Filters: In most cases, should be changed once a year. Some filters need to be changed every 6 months. Some vacuums have washable filters. They can be washed only so much and even though you wash them, it is impossible to get them as clean as they were when they were new. You should check the filter or filters every time you vacuum to see if they are dirty. If they are black or dust-covered you should consider replacing them. Consult your owner’s manual to see how often the manufacturer recommends replacing them. Dirty and clogged filters are the number one reason for motor failure in vacuums. This is especially true with bagless vacuums.
